1. Remove the Bottom Cover
- Remove ten screws from the bottom cover.
- Push the plastic spudger into the space between the palmrest and bottom cover. Push in until you hear a click.
- Run the spudger around the edge of the bottom cover until the palmrest and the bottom cover are separated.
Before removing any internal parts you will have to disconnect the cables that attach them to the other parts. The next few steps will detail this process.
2. Remove the Battery Cable
- Use the tweezers to gently pull the battery cable away from the motherboard.
3. Remove the Palmrest and Touchpad Cables
- Place the plastic spudger under the tabs and gently push up.
- Use the tweezers to pull the palmrest and touchpad cables up and away from the motherboard.
4. Remove the LCD Cable from the Motherboard
- Use the plastic spudger to lift the black tab on the connector, then gently pull the LCD cable up and away from the motherboard.
5. Remove the Daughterboard Cables
- Place the plastic spudger under the tabs and gently push up.
- Use the tweezers to pull the daughterboard cables up and away from the motherboard.
6. Remove the Speaker Cable
- Push on the sides of the connector with the plastic spudger to separate the speaker cable from the motherboard.
7. Remove the Wi-Fi Cables
- Use the tweezers to gently pull the cables up from the Wi-Fi connector.
8. Remove the Sensor Cables
- Use the tweezers to gently pull the cables up from the sensor connector.
Now that all of the cables are disconnected the computer can be disassembled.
9. Remove the Internal Parts
- Remove 26 screws from the inside of the Chromebook.
- Use your hands to gently pull the daughterboard, motherboard, and battery off of the palmrest.
- To remove the WiFi card from the motherboard, gently pull it away from the motherboard.
- Use the plastic spudger to separate the speakers from the bottom cover, then remove them.
10. Remove the Touchpad
- Remove three screws from around the edge of the touchpad.
- Carefully remove the tape stuck to the touchpad.
- Use your hands to gently pull the touchpad out of the palmrest.
11. Remove the Palmrest
- Open the chromebook to 90° and flip it so that it’s laying on the LCD back cover as pictured.
- Use your hands to gently on the palmrest until the palmrest and the LCD assembly are separated.
12. Remove the Hinge Cover
- Remove the two screws from under the rubber feet on the left and right sides of the bezel.
- Push the plastic spudger into the space between the hinge cover and back cover. Push in until you hear a click.
- Run the spudger around the edge of the back cover until the hinge cover and the back cover are separated.
13. Remove the LCD Module
- Remove the three screws attaching the LCD module to the back cover
- Push the plastic spudger into the space between the LCD Module and back cover. Push in until you hear a click.
- Run the spudger around the edge of the back cover until the LCD Module and the back cover are separated.
14. Remove the LCD Cable
- Use the tweezers to pull the tape off of the connector on the back of the LCD.
- Use the tweezers to pull the LCD cable out of the connector.
15. Remove the Hinges
- Remove eight screws from around the hinges.
- Gently use the plastic spudger to separate the hinges from the back cover.
- After they are detached, use your hands to pull the hinges away from the bottom cover.
16. Remove the Camera and Microphone
- Gently push the plastic spudger into the gap between the LCD Module and the camera.
- Push up very slowly on both sides of the camera until they separate from the LCD Module.
- To remove the cable from the camera, use your hand to carefully pull the cable away from the camera.
