Lenovo N23 Yoga Chromebook Teardown

Tools Needed: Plastic Spudger, Tweezers, Phillips Head Screwdriver

1. Remove the Palmrest

  • Remove 10 screws from around the bottom cover.
  • Push the plastic spudger into the space between the palmrest and the bottom cover.
  • Push in until you hear a click.
  • Run the spudger around the edge of the palmrest until the palmrest and the bottom cover are separated.

Before removing any internal parts you will have to disconnect the cables that attach them to the other parts. The next few steps will detail this process.

2. Remove Palmrest and Touchpad Cables

  • Use the tweezers to lift the black tabs on the connectors.
  • Use the tweezers to pull the touchpad cables away from the motherboard.

3. Remove the Battery Cable

  • Use the tweezers to gently pull the battery cable away from the motherboard.

4. Remove the LCD Cable from the Motherboard

  • Use the tweezers to lift the black tab on the connector.
  • Pull the LCD cable away from the motherboard.

5. Remove the Wi-Fi Card Cable

  • Use the tweezers to gently pull the cables up from the Wi-Fi connector.

6. Remove the Daughterboard Cable

  • Use the tweezers to gently pull the cables up from the daughterboard.

7. Remove the Speaker Cable

  • Use the tweezers to pull the speaker cable away from the motherboard.

Now that all of the cables are disconnected the computer can be disassembled.

8. Remove Internal Parts

  • Remove 24 screws from the inside of the Chromebook.
  • Use your hands to gently pull the daughterboard, motherboard, and battery away.
  • Use the plastic spudger to separate the speakers from the bottom cover before removing them.

9. Remove the Trim Piece

  • Remove the two screws from under the rubber pads on the left and right sides of the trim piece.
  • Press the spudger into the space between the trim and back cover until you hear a click.
  • Run the spudger along the edge of the trim piece to separate the parts.

10. Remove the LCD Cable and the Screen

  • Remove 3 screws from underneath the trim piece on the LCD.
  • Slide the LCD down, towards the hinges, then lift it away from the back cover.
  • Use the tweezers to pull the tape off of the connector on the back of the LCD and pull the LCD cable out of the connector.
  • Use the tweezers to remove the touch connection from the module.

11. Remove the Camera and Microphone

  • Gently push the plastic spudger under the camera.
  • Slowly push up on both sides until they seperate from the LCD module.
  • To remove the cable, use the tweezers to pull the cable away from the camera.

12. Remove the Hinges

  • Remove 8 screws from around the hinges.
  • Gently use the plastic spudger to separate the hinges from the back cover.
  • After they are detached, use your hands to pull the hinges away from the back cover.
